How can I improve this GSAP particle animation code?

Warning: Please note

This thread was started before GSAP 3 was released. Some information, especially the syntax, may be out of date for GSAP 3. Please see the GSAP 3 migration guide and release notes for more information about how to update the code to GSAP 3's syntax.

That is just a canvas rendering technique. The canvas isn't being cleared, so all the old pixels remain. On every render, it's drawing a slightly transparent black box over all the old pixels, creating a "trail" effect.

When you set the fade to rgb(0,0,0), it's just drawing an opaque black box over all the old pixels, which has the same effect as clearing the canvas.

// this is pretty much the same...
context.fillStyle = "rgb(0,0,0)";
context.fillRect(0, 0, vw, vh);

// ...as doing this
context.clearRect(0, 0, vw, vh);

Check out this thread. I go over the technique a bit.

When using that technique, sometimes you might see ghosting if the alpha value in the color is too low. It just a problem with how alpha values are multiplied in canvas, and probably can't be fixed.
