    Rethinking Kilobytes

    Conventional wisdom says that kilobytes have a direct impact on load times and consequently user experience. Too many developers, however, myopically focus on a simplistic (and rather dated) "aggregate total file size" mentality and completely miss the broader goal of improving user experience. This article aims to challenge the old paradigm and explain why "spending" kilobytes on a library like GSAP can be a very smart move. Kilobyte cost factors When you're assessing kilobyte cost in a modern, nuanced way consider these factors: Performance yield Some kilobytes
  2. Hi everyone, I'm very new to GSAP and have little JS experience, but I'm rebuilding my portfolio and would like to implement something that seems very easy but I can't find anything on how to implement this properly. Basically what I want to do is trigger an animation when someone leaves the page (clicks a link), show a loading screen while the new page loads and when the page is loaded show an inverted animation. It's an overlay of the viewport that I want to animate. First of, is TweenMax suited to be used this way? And can this be achieved without using A
  3. I have a timeline consisting of tweens that change an SVG text element. The text element begins with a value of 400. The first tween will change the text content to 300, the second tween to 200, and the third and final tween to 100. When the page is finished loading, instead of showing the initial value the text element is set to (in this case 400), it shows the value the element will be set to by the FIRST tween (300). Not the final tween, (100) nor the middle tween (200), but the first one. How do I ensure that when the page is loaded, the target elements to be tweene
  4. Hi all... Based on one of your Great Codes I developed this one : It is all about 4 SWF files that will be load one after another then it stores last swf you ran when you close it ( when you exit each one it will be load next time exactly the same SWF you've exited). for example if you close swf number 3 , next time you start the main swf you will start from SWF number 3... But there is a big problem here ... Each of my SFWs are about 10 to 16 Mb (I didn't create them with flash) and unfortunately your code seem to load all of them at once ... then play them in sequence .
  5. I have a website in which I'm trying to load the TweenMax tag; https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/gsap/1.20.2/TweenMax.min.js Everytime I try to do it, I get this: TweenMax.min.js:16 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'greensock' of undefined at Function.<anonymous> (TweenMax.min.js:16) at check (jquery.themepunch.tools.min.js?rev=4.6.0&ver=4.8.2:59) at new c (jquery.themepunch.tools.min.js?rev=4.6.0&ver=4.8.2:59) at t._gsDefine (jquery.themepunch.tools.min.js?rev=4.6.0&ver=4.8.2:59) at TweenMax.min.js:16 at TweenMax.min.js:16 But
  6. I am using Wordpress and am loading TweenMax via the functions.php file like this: add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts', 'child_scripts'); function child_scripts() { wp_enqueue_script('gsap', 'https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/gsap/1.19.0/TweenMax.min.js'); wp_enqueue_script('main-js', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . 'main.js', array('gsap'), false, true); } Both <script> tags are showing up fine and in the correct order in the page source code after load and there are no loading errors for either resource. I am trying to use TweenMax with the typical TweenMax.to() statement
  7. Hi, I've just created a preloader with a handful of options(ease and other config options) to play. Just wanted to share this here. Play with it!! Thank you Cheers, Sven.

    easing Back

    Hello Greensock Team, I've a conflict with a customer script and the greensock lib. This conflict has something to do with the "Back" function. If I rename this function to "Back2" I don't get an error. I made a codepen to demonstrate it. http://codepen.io/kostjanix/pen/rVmpzK/ Regards, Sami
  9. I have been trying to load images using loadermax. I have been using the ImageLoader and XMLloaders. I have read all the as documentation and have follow the examples, when I run the application I get the error: (XMLLoader Error 2032: stream error. I have check the file path and the AS setting to see if there were any issues, after reviewing they all seem to be correct. Why would I be getting this error. XML_Image_load.txt
  10. Hi - I'm wondering if anyone has loaded an ATF Texture with LoaderMax, and if so how. I assume we should be using DataLoader, but when I tried this the content would not cast as a ByteArray. Any advice would be appreciated.
  11. Hi Carl Another problem made me come back to you. My External loader is ready now and working quiet well (Thanks ). Here I am Loading an external SWF file using the SWFLoader Class. Here is the way i do: currentLoader = new SWFLoader(url,{container:videoContainer_mc,width:720,height:406,centerRegistration:true,autoPlay:false,onProgress:progressHandler,onComplete:completeHandler}); currentLoader.load(); Im trying to make the whole content FullScreen. On the other hand, i tend to design another button for making the external loaded Content FullScreen. How Can i do this separately for
  12. Hi - I have an app working in flash but when I deploy to a device only the first swf loads then unloads and nothing else happens. I'm not sure how to debug what is happening on the device. I am loading several swfs using loadermax - some of the code is below and I will note where it stops working: Grateful for any advice, am currently thinking of starting again without using GS code to see if I'm doing something wrong in there. Thanks. private var swfs:LoaderMax = new LoaderMax({onComplete:completeHandler,onProgress:progressHandler,onChildComplete:childCompleteHandler});
  13. Hi, I'm having trouble with the initial loading of my swf file. - it is visible and audible before it's fully loaded so it shows on stage as though it's paused but the sound is playing. The progress bar is visible on top of the loading swf. How do I make it visible and audible only once it's fully loaded? If I put the following code: event.target.content.visible = false; SoundMixer.soundTransform = new SoundTransform(0); in the progressHandler event the sound and image is hidden but I'm not sure where to restart it once progress equals 1. If I restart it in completeHandler i
  14. http://dev.option5.net/CNCT/CNCT13004/video.html I've built a custom video player built on the use of VideoLoader. However, the loader progress isn't working. It appears to be working; the loader bar grows in width based on a LoaderEvent.PROGRESS dispatch. But when I test the actual network usage in Chrome (dev tools), it shows the video is loading long after the loader bar goes to 100%. Any ideas?
  15. Hi - I'm new to using greensock (and actionscript) and am trying to play around with some code I found. It originally loaded several swf files and looped through them continuously - I'm trying to randomize it. I have created an array and added code to shuffle through the array, but I'm stuck trying to integrate it into the looping files. I'm pretty sure I have to do something with the loaderIndex, but I'm not sure what. Any help would be great - thanks. Code: progress_mc.scaleX = 0; var loaderIndex:Number = -1; var currentLoader:SWFLoader; var urls:Array = ["SWF0.swf","SWF1.swf
  16. Hi, Is there a way to grab the response headers from the LoaderEvent? Thanks, Lewis
  17. Greetings! I am using the following code to load an external SWF into my main movie with LoaderMax: import com.greensock.*; import com.greensock.loading.*; import com.greensock.events.LoaderEvent; import com.greensock.loading.display.ContentDisplay; progressBar.scaleX = 0; var powerpointmovie:SWFLoader = new SWFLoader("powerpoint.swf", {container:this, alpha:0, onprogress:progressHandler, onComplete:completeHandler});function progressHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void { progressBar.scaleX = powerpointmovie.progress; } function completeHandler(event:LoaderEvent):void { trace(
  18. I copied code from the example page but when i compile the code i got this message: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: LoaderEvent. LoaderEvent etc. is all recognized in code. Anyone has a suggestion what might cause this error? Thanks.
  19. Hello, I have strange problem loading swf file, in the preloading event most of the time the preloading progress value isvery small and then after 2/3 of loading progres speed up. On the server when I multiply the number with 100 and rount the walue I got 0% all the time and then it jumps to the 100%. private function onLoadingProgress(event:LoaderEvent) { percent_num = Math.round((event.target.bytesLoaded/event.target.bytesTotal) * 100); parent_class.mainPreload.progressData(percent_num); }
  20. So, I'm creating an Image Gallery. Clicking on buttons calls the "change_section" function, passing it the hires image id. I want to fade out the current image, load the new image, than fade it on the screen. But, for some reason when it losing track of the "this.hires" array that contains the image url, width, height and id. I think it's calling an undefined "Gallery" javascript object. Any insight would be appreciated. Gallery.prototype.change_section = function(_id) { this.new_section = _id; //// Started with TweenMax.to(this, .5, {hires_alpha:0, overwrite:2, onUpdate:reDrawMain,
  21. I'm having an issue loading loaders that have been loaded, then disposed of. Let me explain that (it gives me a headache trying to parse it). I have an array of loaders, some VideoLoaders, some ImageLoaders. I'm trying to make something where you can swipe through multiple objects, but rolled my own garbage collection so only three objects (previous, current, and next) are currently loaded into memory, as these files can get fairly large. I append a loader to my LoaderMax instance, then call the load() method. As I move forward through my array, I append the prev, current, and next lo
  22. I've come across and issue which I have found a work around. I am loading and playing external FLVs from a different server from where my SWF is located. When published locally and pulling in the FLVs, everything worked fine. When placing the SWF online, it wouldn't load the FLVs. After a day of troubleshooting and using crossdomain policies, I've narrowed it down to the loading procedure used. My findings are below. Please feel free to comment or let me know if I missed something that would have prevented me from wasting a day. I have done the following: 1. added crossdomain.xml to the s
  23. Hello and thank you so much for the most useful AS3 Library I've ever used! I'm currently using a VideoLoader to playback external MP4 on a client website. I've set bufferMode=true and all goes well on short videos. However, on larger videos (about 100MB) when I try to seek the video immediately after the first bufferFull event: - bufferEmpty is displached properly - I display a 0% buffer progress info and wait for buffer progress - It stays at 0% for about 20 seconds! -> My problem - It then starts to show progress and quickly gets to 100% - bufferFull is dispached, all is good.
