Hi guys,

We're using TweenMax for our site (still in development) and it all works splendidly on most browsers however on Safari (Windows 7, haven't tested on Mac), there seems to be some major delays and sluggishness with even basic things like link hovers, rollovers and the browser scrollbar which seems unselectable.

I must stress however that the animations are rolling out surprisingly smooth. At this point in time, I can't for the life of me figure out why. I disabled the Greensock libs and the said issues disappeard. The site is making extensive use of z-indexes so I'm not sure if I'm sufferring from the same issue you guys outlined below.

Either way if it's a fault with my own code or with something else I'm foolishly omitting I'd appreciate it if someone could give it a look over.

I can zip up and send over the site files if anyone needs them.

Thanks

Zee

First off, what a beautiful site. Nice work.

I only got to look at it on a Mac.

It absolutely blazes buttery smooth in Chrome. When looking in Safari it is actually quite good. Had I not seen it in Chrome first I would have thought it was totally fine. Chrome just has a way of smoking Safari when it comes to js.

I realize that doesn't help much. I run windows in a virtual machine. I'll install Safari and see how it goes. A virtual machine isn't all that great for assessing real-world performance.

Perhaps someone else can take a peak in Safari on Win. Stay tuned, and please let us know if you uncover the reason for any of the problems.

If anything, you can be assured that Safari on Mac does a real fine job.

I managed to run the site in safari in my virtual win8 machine. I can confirm that it doesn't run as well as other browsers. I really don't know the reason, nor do I think it will be particularly easy to hunt down.

Interestingly, I could not even find a Safari for Win download on the Apple site last night and found that really really strange. I had to download it from CNET. This morning I came across this article:

http://techcrunch.com/2012/07/25/apple-safari-for-windows-ends/

and this:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/07/25/safari_6_ships/

Even if Apple continues to develop Safari, I have to imagine the existing install base is miniscule. Can't imagine anyone on Win who wants a browser other than IE would bother with Safari unless they are a developer that doesn't have a mac for testing.

Anecdotally, out of over 9,000 visits to my blog (catered to web devs) last month only 21 of those visits were from Safari on Windows. Perhaps that will offer some consolation.

Thanks for the info Carl.

Yup I had the same problem with finding a direct download link for the safari for windows which was extremely strange.

If I don't find anything I guess I'll just have to go with it and hope the few people that use it will simply try it in another browser...

Thanks

Zee
