Hello, I'm Ken from Japan.

I'd like to ask you a question about a Licensing.
I'd like to know whether I have to get a lisense or not in my case.

My case is below.

  • I'll use GSAP for work, making a website.
  • The website is a landing page of accesaries.
  • It contains a link of items, sending end users to an another existing page, where they can buy items.

This page says "Usage in games or products that are sold to multiple end users"
In this case, do I have to get a lisense or can I use GSAP for "No Charge" lisense?

Good question, @KenSaki. Thanks for checking.

If you answer "yes" to any of the following, you'd need the special commercial license that comes with "Business Green" Club GreenSock memberships:

  • Does your GSAP-enhanced website/game/product require the user to pay a fee to use? (like Netflix.com)
  • Are you selling a GSAP-enhanced product to multiple end users? (like a website template, theme or game)
  • Are you using GSAP in a game/app with optional paid features/upgrades?

If your website sells products that aren't GSAP-enhanced like clothing, widgets, food, etc., that doesn't require the commercial license. It only matters if the thing for which a fee is collected uses GSAP in some way. The standard "no charge" license even covers usage in projects where only a one-time development fee is charged, like an agency that's paid to build a fancy web site that's free for everyone to use.

We like to think that a Club GreenSock membership pays for itself very quickly when you consider all the time it’ll save, the added capabilities that the bonus plugins deliver...and of course that sense of having animation superpowers is priceless 🙂

Club GreenSock memberships support all the ongoing development here as well, so it can be a smart way for you to help ensure that the tools continue to get nurtured in the years ahead just like they have been for the past 15+ years.

Let me know if we can help with anything else. I look forward to seeing you on the membership roster soon.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I understand the scope of license coverage.

This time, the website I'll make sells accessories unlike products which are GSAP-enhanced.

So, this time,  I can use GSAP for free, right ?

Thanks to you,  I can make the website without worrying!

Sure, as long as you don't need any of the bonus members-only plugins and you didn't answer "yes" to any of those 3 bullet points in my last post.

Enjoy!

Thank you for the advice, I will try a SimplyGreen membership and if I like it then I will go for a BusinessGreen membership. I don't have money to buy a membership but now I found a paydaysay.com website from where I will get the information on Payday loans in South Dakota and when I get a loan after that I will buy the membership. Payday loans are not available in South Dakota due to local laws. This is a good thing as these loans often lead to high debt and short repayment periods.

Thank you for the advice, I will try a SimplyGreen membership and if I like it then I will go for a BusinessGreen membership.
