It's pretty tough to troubleshoot without a minimal demo - the issue could be caused by CSS, markup, a third party library, your browser, an external script that's totally unrelated to GSAP, etc. Would you please provide a very simple CodePen or CodeSandbox that demonstrates the issue?

Please don't include your whole project. Just some colored <div> elements and the GSAP code is best (avoid frameworks if possible). See if you can recreate the issue with as few dependancies as possible. If not, incrementally add code bit by bit until it breaks. Usually people solve their own issues during this process! If not, then at least we have a reduced test case which greatly increases your chances of getting a relevant answer.

Here's a starter CodePen that loads all the plugins. Just click "fork" at the bottom right and make your minimal demo

If you're using something like React/Next/Vue/Nuxt or some other framework, you may find StackBlitz easier to use. We have a series of collections with different templates for you to get started on these different frameworks: React/Next/Vue/Nuxt.

Once we see an isolated demo, we'll do our best to jump in and help with your GSAP-specific questions.

Hi,

How exactly this is not working?

I can see the light blue circle growing and using the entire screen, so I'm a bit lost in terms of what you're trying to do and how this current approach is not achieving that 🤷‍♂️

Please be more specific about what you want to do and how your current code is not working.

Also is better to create all your GSAP instances in the MatchMedia instance, this particular instance won't get cleaned up properly and you could run into issues with the double calls in effect hooks, that React uses on strict mode:

useLayoutEffect(() => {
  gsap.to(".mask", {
    scale: 12.18999,
    scrollTrigger: {
      trigger: "#img",
      start: "center bottom",
      markers: true,
      // pin: true,
      scrub: true
      // end: "+=200%"
    }
  });
}, []);

What you can do is either use the current MatchMedia instance you have and add that particular instance with a very small screen size, so you can be sure that it will be created just one and for all the screen sizes (something like min-width: 100px). Another option is to create a GSAP Context instance in that effect hook:

useLayoutEffect(() => {
  const ctx = gsap.context(() => {
    gsap.to(".mask", {
      scale: 12.18999,
      scrollTrigger: {
        trigger: "#img",
        start: "center bottom",
        markers: true,
        // pin: true,
        scrub: true
        // end: "+=200%"
      }
    });
  });
  return () => ctx.revert();
}, []);

Hopefully this helps.

Happy Tweening!
