Fake Horizontal Gallery Transition Example

Hello all,

 

So I am having a hard time understanding the "Fake Horizontal Gallery Transition" example because of the use of HAML markup. I don't understand Ruby, can this be accomplished with vanilla HTML? I don't understand what the markup for this sort of a page would look like. A ton of IMG elements come to mind but is HAML necessary to accomplish this? Can anyone provide what the equivalent HTML would be of this example?
