Hey ricky777 and welcome to the GreenSock forums. That effect can be done in a couple of different ways.

 

The way that it is done on that is by positioning each container with position: absolute, giving the container overflow: hidden, setting the child container to an explicit height (equal to the viewport's height), and then animating the containt's height to 0. 

You can also create an effect like that by animating clip-paths depending on the browser support that you need.

 

You can also create the effect using ScrollTrigger and a fixed background similar to this demo (listed in the ScrollTrigger demos page)

You don't need to, no. You can if you'd like it's not very complicated. Unfortunately we don't have the capacity to build it all out for you. If you have specific questions about GSAP please feel free to ask and we'll do our best to answer.
