I have no idea myself how many people use it but the us gov site which should be pretty objective https://analytics.usa.gov/ reports about 7.4% usage almost 2x what edge gets. That's till far too common for me to abandon support unfortunately. Cut that in half and maybe I can think about dropping it. Clients drive the bus.

For now I'll just have to wait.?

Have you thought maybe your extending it's life span by continuing to support it? If we stop supporting it, eventually the "clients" will drop it. You don't even know whether all those that have IE, even use it.

I think that might be a little skewed as the government is one the largest the users of IE. The government also has special contracts with Microsoft for continued support.

This table might be a little more realistic.

Been hearing that since IE5. Unfortunately clients write the cheques and consumers decide what browser to use. I have to satisfy them.

I understand why clients want to support every browser, but I try to get them to rethink that... maybe by charging them extra to support IE with all the bells and whistles. ?

BTW, one the reasons Edge is moving over to a Chromium architecture is to allow Edge to be installed on older Windows machines. In theory, that should lower IE's usage statistics.

Its always good to support any browser that hasn't reached its life cycle, so you can have your product work on any browser not put to death. Also IE11 was the highest Internet Explorer version you could get on Windows 7. Windows 7 is reaching its life cycle in another year.

Internet Explorer (IE) 10 will reach its end of support on January 31, 2020. So that means IE11 will also reach the end of its life cycle some time after that.

Here is Microsoft's list of their End of Cycle charts for Internet Explorer

Yeah we usually do that when we make the decision to end support for a legacy browser and IE11 is just about due, but i'm going to err on the side of caution for a little longer.

It is time I familiarize myself with some newer css properties though, as the changeover  will be soon.

I honestly think you're chasing after phantom users. Be sure to check out some of your own analytics. You might be surprised at how rare real IE users are.

And browsers ignore CSS they don't understand, so there is a fallback.

a {
  /* FALLBACK */
  color: #7F583F;
  color: var(--primary);
}

Also, you can serve pages based on the capabilities of the browser. I do this all the time for older browsers.

 There are some online stores that actually charge the customer an extra fee if purchasing within Internet Explorer.

Speak of the devil. An Edge preview is out for older versions of Windows. Spread the word so we can finally retire IE and make @Visual-Q happy.

I’ve happily read that in Bootstrap v5 they are dropping JQuery and IE 10 & 11 support also. Given its popularity, I hope each will help diminish the usage of both in the industry.

IE is much like a roulette wheel with all red while trying to hit black. ?

Interesting site. I'm a little shocked at the Republic of Samsung, which has the fastest the internet in the world. 12.52% ?

I mistakenly thought Republic of Korea meant North Korea at first, but then I remembered they don't have internet over there.

Look at all those problems Edge 76 fixes ?
