Is this appropriate to post here? It's not GSAP specific but I don't know any other forum where banners are discussed actively.

I've noticed banner work dropping precipitously, for me personally, fortunately I do After Effects and that makes up a bulk of my workload now.

What are your experiences?

I have a ton of projects. All kind of clients mainly from 3 ad agencies. I haven't noticed any decline. ( I hope they will relax a bit :) )

I noticed the same over here in Germany!
The orders have been falling sharply for about 1 year

OMG, if it is a global trend, then we have a couple of year left to make ads!
Time to make a Plan B, like write romantic e-books. :D

Do someone have statistics about this decline?

Yes, the amount of Banners is dropping for some Month now. A while ago we had Ad Bundles with 6 animated Banners with different Sizes. Now we only have 2. Most of the Formats are now delivered as static Images or GIFs.

Might just be the state of the industry, ad fraud, ad blocking, and possibly more of the budgets being allocated towards social / video. Might also be specific advertisers, I believe I read some advertisers were cutting budgets for them a while back unless the ad fraud thing got worked out (P&G, Unilever, etc). I don't think it's going away though, someone's gotta pay for the internet. Think Amazon's just getting in, so someone's gotta make them.

  • 2 months later...

Here in Australia they can't find banner developers so i am in hot demand, they want cross skills through to front end development and some UI/UX and digital design. Big companies for campaign work, they also want me to do eDM stuff as well.
