CSSPlugin: causes reflow?

As can be seen from the attached profile, just including CSSPlugin in the page causes a reflow (in Chrome 58 at least). It looks like it's part of some browser/feature sniffing code.

 

Can this be avoided?

Yes, there's a tiny amount of setup code that runs and sets some variables so that runtime performance is maximized (which is essential for animation). And yes, some of that is browser/feature sniffing. 

 

Are you trying to avoid it for a particular reason? It should have only a tiny impact on startup performance (probably not even noticeable real-world), but the tradeoff is much faster runtime performance. I guess the answer is "no", it cannot be avoided.

I was seeing what I could do to speed up the initial render of the page.

Ah, I see. How long is it delaying things for you? It shouldn't take long at all. And like I said, it's performing important tasks that'll allow the runtime engine to be much faster, so overall it's probably a very good trade
