How do I get info from Draggable element?

I am working for the first time with the Draggable plugin and having a hard time getting access to the attributes of the handle I am using. I am familiar with using `this.target.id', but I need more info than that. What method can I get to retrieve for example the data-panel attribute on this codepen? I have tried all the variations with or without jQuery I can think of such as:

this.target.data("data-panel")
$(this)[0].target.data("data-panel")
$(this).target.attr("data-panel")

Thank you so much, I had no idea you could / should combine those two inside a jquery selector like that.
