Off topic fun project, cold war era military text messages

I am working on something fun that I am going to export as a video file, so I am creating my fun project using AS3. I think I can remember old war movies where messages came in a character at a time, Any war movie buffs, know what that was called.

I think it was called teletype, but for movie purposes was depicted as courier type text on the screen, though I do remember seeing the tape depicted as messages arrived.

 

 I feel like older games had something like this to set up the story line.
