clip stage like in Flash?

Is there are good way to a make invisible or clip elements in an html page that are outside of a content area (like the stage in Flash). I am new to animation with html and am coming from a background in Flash. I am trying to animate an element from on screen to off screen to off screen. i have tried  clip: rect(0px, 0px, 1020px, 768px); on the body and on the parent element.  I know this isn't enough info to properly diagnose my situation. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

The best solution is to give your element that contains the animated elements overflow:hidden
