Since you are asking about 'color' tweening an <img>, I have to ask what do you actually expect a 'color' tween to do to that tag? There's not a lot that can be done to the actual image data of an <img> in most browsers. Webkit has some support for filters, but they're experimental so they're not built into GSAP's CSSPlugin yet (although if webkit support is all you need, GSAP can certainly be used to animate filters).

 

You can still easily tween CSS color (i.e. text color) and backgroundColor of any element you like:

TweenLite.to(foo, 1, { color: "rgba(255,0,0,0.5)" }; // text color
TweenLite.to(foo, 1, { backgroundColor: "#FF0000" }; // background color
